Race 3 – Amanda Foley Class 3 Handicap, 1010m
2. Boambee Beach $4.80
Local mare who does her best work on tight turning circuits and draws the rail to use her gate speed. Has been holding form (Grafton and Coffs placings) and maps to park just behind the leaders at a trip she knows inside out (14 starts at 1000–1100m for multiple minors). If she holds the fence and gets the split, she’s right in the finish.
3. Dusan $3.50
Genuine short course operator (three wins at 1000m) who brings proper early toe and gets a handy 2kg claim. Recent runs have been in similar depth and he’s trialled neatly. From gate 4 he can either lead or sit outside it—both patterns are effective at 1010m here, so he profiles as the map horse.
5. Grey Effects $8.00
Capable sprinter who’s found a second wind this prep, winning twice around the 1100–1200m range then measuring up in BM66. He’s drawn to stalk the speed and sustain a long, building run, often the key when they rip along early over this trip. If they overcook it up front, he’s the one chiming late.
Rusty’s Verdict:
Leaning Dusan $3.50 on the speed/map edge, Boambee Beach $4.80 the proven local danger, and Grey Effects $8.00 the late closer if they go too hard.
Race 5 – Ken Alderman Class 1 Handicap, 1312m
1. Impressionism $9.00
On pacer with a 1300m win on soft ground and a style that suits today’s 1312m: jump, posse up, and keep rolling. His best efforts have come when he controls or sits outside an even tempo, and the smallish field gives him that chance. Fitness is sound and he’s drawn to land in the first three.
4. Oakfield Pluto $2.80
Lightly raced improver who won well fresh (1007m) then stuck on strongly in the wet at 1200m. The rise to 1312m looks a natural progression given how he lengthened last time. He can absorb pressure, quicken again off the bend, and he’s got ratings upside versus many of these more exposed types.
6. Hallonic $10.00
Tough customer who broke through at 1400m here and now cuts back slightly in trip. That stamina base is a plus at 1312m where they can go stop–start mid race; his closing strength can be a separator late. The claim brings him in well at the weights, he just needs a clean passage from the draw.
Rusty’s Verdict:
Oakfield Pluto $2.80 is the progressive horse and top pick. Impressionism $9.00 is the on pace threat at a price, while Hallonic $10.00 is the grinder who keeps finding the line.
Race 7 – Peter Barrett Benchmark 74 Handicap, 1212m
2. Run Rory Run $10.00
Seasoned short course campaigner with six wins at 1200–1400m and a recent BM85 success. Carries weight but handles it, and he’s versatile enough to sit third pair and build momentum from the 600m. If the track has any give, his record on rain affected ground is a genuine tick.
6. Monte Maximus $2.70
Arrives in career best touch off a convincing CL3 win at 1410m and solid Highway form at 1500m. The trim back to 1212m is the query on paper, but he’s rock fit, draws soft, and should get a genuine tempo to bring him into it late. Class and racecraft make him the benchmark.
9. Laizabout $3.10
Lightly raced with a strong 1000m foundation and a couple of runs in better company. He brings a fast 2–3 length turn of foot but must prove himself at 1212m. From the draw he can camp behind a solid speed and be produced late, exactly how you want to ride this chute start.
Rusty’s Verdict:
Monte Maximus $2.70 on class even back to 1212m, Laizabout $3.10 the danger if he stretches his sprint, and Run Rory Run $10.00 the value with conditions to suit.
Rusty’s Final Word
Best Bet: Oakfield Pluto (Race 5) $2.80
Best Each Way: Boambee Beach (Race 3) $4.80
Best Value: Run Rory Run (Race 7) $10.00
