Quaddie Killers: The Top 10 Long Shots of 2024

10 best long shot winners

Arguably, the biggest thrill for the punter in racing is the triple-figure odds flashing up on the screen after having a dabble.

Similarly to capturing Group 1 Glory, these are the bet slips hung in the Louvre and talked about for years to come!

Into The Zone – $187.00

Daiki Chujo trained Into The Zone had just one the one start prior at Beaudesert, settling at the rear and staying there beaten 8L.

She stepped up from 1100 to 1400 a fortnight later and bloused them with a powerful finish paying $187 on the NSW TAB.

Into The Zone has had 3 starts since in bm58 company running 9th, 11th and 9th and is currently under a bleeders embargo.

Lake Mac Lily – $101.00

The 6-year-old mare won back-to-back races in 2023 over 1500 and 2000 and hadn’t saluted the judge in 13 starts since.

First up for six months over the 1280, there were no dramas as she made full use of the cut-away rail to come from last and win!

Madam Rupee – $126.00

The R&L Price trained 3YO was beaten 6L and 10L, respectively, in her first two starts, both over the 1200 at Kembla Grange.

Again tackling the same track and distance, she was sent out a $126 shot and came from last to win.

Madam Rupee has had the four starts since, beating just two horses home, and has been beaten by a combined margin of 40L.

The great game!

Groshawk – $165.60

The gelding by Grunt was racing under an uncompetitive embargo, having been beaten 30L first up for the new stable at Kyneton before he was beaten 9L, 9L, and 14L consecutively.

He stepped up from the mile to 2000, coming from near last with seemingly impossible form to win a race.

The success was short-lived, however, stepping up to a 0-58 beaten 24L

Makram $151.00

The import had not won a race since 2022 and was first up over 1400 following a fruitless prior preparation, last seen running 10th of 12 over the 2000m in G3 company.

Although a prior winner at 1400 and first up, punters didn’t want a bar of the Hayes-trained gelding; instead, all the rage was $1.26 pop Jimmysstar.

One of the biggest party spoilers of the year.

Majority Interest – $151.00

Just an $800 bargain buy, sacked by the prior stable without a start.

Majority Interest saluted in his very first go for his new connections, leading all the way in a 1200m maiden at Mornington.

Unlike a majority of the horses on this list, Majority Interest has somewhat held form since, finishing runner-up on two occasions in 58 company.

Alia Asahi – $251.00

A 2400m maiden always has the potential to throw up a result like this. Alia Asahi was beaten 27L just three starts prior, but interestingly enough, she actually ran 2nd, beaten 1.25L at the same track and distance in her last visit.

Some bookies offered as much as $251 for the 6-year-old mare, last seen running 5th of 12 in a 3450m race on a heavy 9.

Crown’m – $101

Crown’m was a 30-start maiden first up over the unsuitable 1175m at Grafton after being predominantly seen up over the 2000m trips.

The Casino Prince gelding had also had six prior first-up attempts with zero form to speak of and remains a 41-start class 1 despite a further five placings since.

Sea Raider – $101.00

It had been almost two years since Sea Raider had won a race, impressively in listed company.

Interestingly, he’d failed to run a place in 16 starts since, hence the starting price.

Sea Raider was recently retired as a 12-time winner.

Socks Nation – $126.00

This one blew the punters out of the water – a triple-figure outcome of the G1 Queensland Oaks.

Socks Nation was yet to put in a bad run and came off two promising runs at Caulfield and Randwick, adding more merit to the bizarre triple-figure quote.

Socks Nation has twice been G1 placed since in the Empire Rose and Northerly Stakes.
