Race 5 – Dominant Scarborough Stakes (1200m)
6 PRESTIGE SNITZEL – $9.50 ($2.90)
Profiles well for this race shape. Resumes off two strong jumpouts where she showed tactical speed and late strength. Closed off powerfully behind HELL QUEEN in the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders last prep, then put a maiden field to the sword with ease. From the low draw she’ll stalk the speed and only needs clear air to be dangerous late.
9 POINT BARROW – $7.50 ($2.40)
Brings a booming turn of foot and steps up in grade after belting a BM64 field in slick time. The way she quickened between the 400m and 200m suggested she has black-type potential. Drawn wide but gets pattern favours with pressure on up front. If they overdo it, she’s the one with last shot.
10 SNOW MERCY – $19.00 ($5.00)
Forging a nice record and brings Adelaide form that tends to measure up in these fillies’ stakes races. Took up a more forward spot last start and showed good race sense to put them away comfortably. Maps to box-seat from gate 1 and gets every chance if she handles the Valley’s turning layout.
Race 6 – Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes (1600m)
5 PRIDE OF JENNI – $4.00 ($1.80)
Maps to get complete control and brings top-tier ratings when allowed to dictate. Jumpouts have been strong and this yard doesn’t waste runs. Won the G1 Empire Rose last prep by breaking them open early and that blueprint works here. If she gets rolling midrace, they’ll struggle to run her down.
6 TREASURETHE MOMENT – $1.40 ($1.10)
WFA beast who was outstanding in the Memsie when asked to sustain a long run off a slow speed. Second-up now, fitter, and steps to 1600m which suits perfectly. Maps to trail PRIDE OF JENNI and peel out at the right time. All ratings say she’s clearly top seed but the map is the only slight query.
Race 7 – Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m)
5 MAGIC TIME – $8.00 ($2.70)
Returned with a slashing run in the Cockram where she gave them a head start and launched late. That was off a modest tempo, and her 400–200m split rated +5 lengths above benchmark. Second-up is her go, she maps soft from the draw, and any sting out suits. Gets the map to win.
6 LADY SHENANDOAH – $2.25 ($1.30)
Elite closing sectionals and has Group 1 talent. Concorde run was enormous given she was posted wide early and still found the line. Now third-up with McDonald booked and drawn to get cover midfield. If she gets a tow into it, she’s clearly the one to hold out.
7 CHARM STONE – $26.00 ($6.50)
Forgive the last run where she bungled the start and was never in it. Prior form includes a G1 win in South Australia where she sat handy and kicked. Her best is good enough and the map gives her a chance to stalk a hot speed. Value play if she jumps clean.
Race 8 – Ladbrokes Stocks Stakes (1500m)
4 JUST FEELIN’ LUCKY – $7.00 ($2.50)
Gutsy mare who just keeps improving. Fought off some good ones in the Mona Lisa and that race rated well across the board. 1500m is ideal and she’s versatile enough to settle where needed. Any sting out helps and she brings the best blend of form, fitness and race pattern.
7 OH TOO GOOD – $3.30 ($1.70)
Explosive win in the VGold Mile and followed it up with a solid effort chasing a sharp tempo. Has the tactical speed to land handy again and beat some of these two back. Looks suited around the Valley and the stable is flying.
8 SMOKIN’ PRINCESS – $13.00 ($3.80)
Consistent type who loves this trip. Ran the fastest last 600m in a high-rating mares race last start and is crying out for tempo. Drawn to do no work and will be steaming home late if gaps appear.
The Professor’s Play:
Best Bet: TREASURETHE MOMENT (Race 6) – Class animal who profiles perfectly second-up. All ratings say she wins if the breaks come.
Value: JUST FEELIN’ LUCKY (Race 8) – Loves a dogfight and gets her chance in a race where pattern and placement are huge advantages.
Each-Way: MAGIC TIME (Race 7) – Big late splits fresh and second-up is the go. Drawn to get the smother and power late.
