moonee valley racing expert tips

Race 7 – Musk Creek Farm Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200 METRES)

1 The Playwright ($4.80)

Fast filly who makes her own luck. Benchmark juvenile figures from the Widden and a solid Blue Diamond run. Barrier 2 allows her to hold the rail and control the speed around the bend. The short straight suits her pattern and blinkers again sharpen her focus. The one they must run down.

2 Ferivia ($7.50)

Fresh Grade 3 winner who owns strong late splits at 1100. Handles soft ground and has already taken a step against better class. From gate 8 she can camp just off the leaders and blend in on the turn. Genuine threat if the favourite overdoes it.

3 Miss Celine ($21.00)

Blinkers first time and an inside draw set up a soft map. Has teased in good company without landing the punch at 1200. The cutaway can help her hold a spot and sneak runs. Place chance if the pressure tells on the on speed pair.

Race 8 – Ranvet So You Think Stakes (1500 METRES)

4 Desert Lightning ($2.40)

Class runner with Group 1 standard form at 1400 to 1600. Excellent return behind Private Eye and now rises to an ideal trip. Drawn out but has the engine to absorb a mid race move and sustain a long run. Sets the benchmark on ratings and race shape.

6 Moira ($5.00)

International mare with high quality mile to ten furlong credentials. Closed well in the Lawrence and strips fitter. Gate 13 demands a patient ride but her change of gears is real. If the tempo is genuine she can round them up late.

11 Glint Of Silver ($14.00)

Honest type who races on speed and gives a kick. Maps to land first four from gate 4 and control his own fate. The last 100 can test him at this level but a positive ride keeps him in the finish. Save for exotics.

Race 9 – Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes (1000 METRES)

7 Baraqiel ($6.00)

Explosive sprinter who loves this circuit. Trial work was sharp and the recent Carlyon win rated strongly. Wide gate is manageable at the Valley with his gate speed to land handy. Peak ratings make him the horse to beat.

11 Skybird ($7.50)

Top mare with a Lightning win that stamps her as elite at 1000. Drawn to stalk the speed and unleash late. Needs a clean passage but the last 200 is a weapon. Major player.

12 Alabama Lass ($4.20)

Winning machine from New Zealand with a high cruising speed. Low draw allows her to hold the rail and kick. The rise in grade is the test but her platform is solid and she maps perfectly. Must include.
