Race 7 – 4:15PM THE TAB EVEREST (1200 METRES)
1. Ka Ying Rising – $1.80 win / $1.25 place
An absolute jet from Hong Kong, Ka Ying Rising arrives with one of the sharpest 1200m strike rates seen this side of the equator. Four straight Group wins culminating in the Chairman’s Sprint, and every start brimming with class and control. Zac Purton sticks, and from barrier 7 he gets every chance to stalk the speed and launch late. His 1:07.8 benchmark sits right at the Everest standard. Simply bombproof – the one they’ll all have to run down.
4. Jimmysstar – $10.00 win / $3.20 place
Proven Group 1 performer with a serious closing burst. His All Aged win was elite, slicing through in 33-flat last 600m and posting a 0.59L victory over Joliestar. Drawn out but that’s fine – he’ll drift back and unleash. Trialled well behind Briasa and looks spot on to peak here. The query is whether he can outsprint the Hong Kong flyer, but he’s the danger if the pace melts.
8. Angel Capital – $26.00 win / $6.00 place
Lightly raced, rapidly improving 4yo with a lethal turn of foot. Angel Capital destroyed them in the Chautauqua Stakes last prep and his Rupert Clarke run was sneaky good late. Low draw suits, Ben Melham on, and if they overdo it upfront, he can launch. Definite blowout chance at big odds.
9. Joliestar – $6.50 win / $2.40 place
Classy mare with a Newmarket win on the resume and proven against the boys. She thrives first and second up, and J-Mac knows her timing to perfection. Her win in The Shorts was outstanding – clocked 33.4 last 600m off a hot tempo. Drawn to get cover, she can stalk and strike. She’ll fight on bravely in the finish.
Race 8 – 4:50PM SILVER EAGLE (1300 METRES)
1. Linebacker – $3.40 win / $1.60 place
Outstanding miler resuming with intent. Linebacker looked airborne in his recent trial, cruising past Overpass and Ka Ying Rising. His Randwick Guineas win last prep was elite, running 1:33.6 on a Good 4. From the wide alley Zac Lloyd can roll across, find a spot, and dictate. His turn of foot over the final 200m makes him a serious Silver Eagle candidate.
6. Raikkonen – $10.00 win / $3.30 place
Lightly raced type with untapped upside. His Gosford win last prep was full of merit, handling heavy going and still quickening. From the Bjorn Baker camp, he’s the improver second-up. Chad Schofield hops on and from the middle draw, he gets options. If he settles midfield with cover, he’ll be charging late.
9. Sabaj – $6.00 win / $2.20 place
Three-time winner from just five starts and looked electric in his jump-outs. Sabaj profiles like a future Group-class sprinter – fast, efficient, and still learning. His sectionals at Morphettville suggest he can measure up to this grade. Damian Lane rides, barrier 3 is gold, and he’ll park handy before pouncing. Big watch.
12. Snow In May – $19.00 win / $5.00 place
A mare on the rise who keeps finding the line. Her Mona Lisa run was excellent when wide and closing hard. The John O’Shea yard has her peaking third-up, and if tempo suits, she’ll be flashing late. The 1300m looks ideal and she’ll be one of the strongest through the line.
Race 9 – 5:35PM KING CHARLES III STAKES (1609 METRES)
1. Mr Brightside – $4.80 win / $1.90 place
Australia’s most consistent miler returns to his pet trip. Mr Brightside has won or placed in 14 of 16 runs at a mile, and his Makybe Diva win last start screamed peak form. Craig Williams knows him like a glove – he’ll settle up front and grind them into the turf. Fitness edge, proven at Randwick, and a genuine G1 warrior.
3. Ceolwulf – $10.00 win / $3.40 place
Tough, on-speed galloper who always gives a sight. Blinkers go on for the first time – expect him to hold a prominent spot and make them chase. His run in the 7 Stakes was solid and he wasn’t far off Fangirl there. On the quick backup and loves the Randwick mile. Big each-way hope.
6. Pericles – $10.00 win / $3.30 place
Godolphin star who’s back in form. Won the Tramway, then ran a bottler in the Epsom. Joshua Parr retains the ride and draws perfectly in gate 5. Will camp just behind the leaders and get his chance to sprint late. Always runs an honest race and is right in the mix.
10. Fangirl – $3.80 win / $1.70 place
Queen of Randwick. Fangirl loves this track, this distance, and this time of year. James McDonald takes the reins again, and she’s flying off her 7 Stakes win. She’ll get back, blend into the race late, and unleash her lethal finish. She’s the one they all have to hold off.
Race 10 – 6:10PM THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB WORLD POOL HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
2. Lavish Empire – $16.00 win / $4.60 place
Reliable type with a sneaky turn of foot when conditions suit. His Muswellbrook Cup win last prep showed grit and stamina, and he’s fitter now second-up after flashing home for second behind Husk. From barrier one, Josh Parr can settle closer and punch through late. Genuine top-four contender at value.
5. Getafix – $14.00 win / $4.20 place
Lightly raced grey with talent to burn. Forgive the first-up run – he was never in it from back in the field. His prior form includes a dominant Randwick 1400m win, and with Collett back aboard, he can settle midfield and blend in late. Look for him steaming down the outside if tempo lifts.
7. Kerguelen – $5.00 win / $2.00 place
Gun heavy-tracker who’s proving equally effective on top of the ground. A model of consistency for the Pride stable, and his Randwick BM78 win on heavy ground showed his class. Drawn wide but can slot in with cover and finish hard. With even luck, he’s right in the finish.
14. Rock Empire – $6.00 win / $2.30 place
Tough on-pacer from the Waterhouse-Bott yard, fresh off a dominant Kensington win. The stable excels backing up into metro Saturday grade, and this gelding ticks all the boxes: fit, in form, and drawn to roll forward. Expect Rachel King to press early and make her own luck. Major player.
