randwick racing expert tips

Race 6 – TAB FURIOUS STAKES (1200 METRES)

1 Within The Law ($4.60)

Class filly with a proven record at Randwick and strong Group 1 form through the autumn. She closed hard in the Percy Sykes and was only beaten a head in the Champagne at the mile. Resumed well in the Silver Shadow from a good draw. Wide gate 16 is the concern, but her late strength makes her a major player if tempo is solid.

3 Savvy Hallie ($5.00)

Race fit and perfectly placed at 1200 after her strong Silver Shadow win on heavy ground. She has tactical speed to use barrier 5 and should land in the first four. She handles all conditions and brings genuine Group 2 credentials. A repeat of her last run makes her the filly to beat from a map perspective.

11 Karinska ($26.00)

Still lightly raced and looking for a lift at her second run back. She had no luck in quality juvenile fillies’ races but showed talent in her maiden win. From barrier 6 she can settle midfield and be produced late. She needs to raise her rating but is suited if the leaders overdo it.

Race 7 – ASAHI SUPER DRY CHELMSFORD STAKES (1600 METRES)

2 Ceolwulf ($2.00)

The proven class runner at the mile. Resumed with a solid Winx Stakes run and now steps to his ideal trip from a low draw. He has multiple Group 1 placings at 1500 to 2000 and his sectional profile is elite. With a soft run behind the speed he will be very hard to hold out.

4 Lindermann ($11.00)

Tough on pace galloper who makes his own luck. Ran second to Via Sistina in the Ranvet and often performs strongly second up. The mile has been his stumbling block in the past, with late strength questionable. He will give a sight if the track is drier and tempo not excessive.

10 Birdman ($23.00)

A stayer resuming at 1600 but his trials have shown sharpness. His best form is over 2400 plus, yet he has the ability to sprint well fresh if tempo collapses late. Drawn to do no work and can sneak into the finish if leaders tire.

Race 8 – KIA ORA CONCORDE STAKES (1000 METRES)

4 Lady Shenandoah ($2.70)

Top class mare who has already claimed Group 1s at 1200 to 1600. She draws barrier 1 which gives her control of the rail, and her turn of foot is lethal when produced off a fast tempo. This is short of her best trip, but her tactical speed and fresh record offset the concern. Clearly the one to beat.

1 Jimmysstar ($5.50)

Explosive galloper with multiple Group 1 wins at 1200 to 1400. Resumes at 1000 which is sharp, but his record fresh is outstanding. He will likely be back in the second half and charging late. If they overdo it in front his class comes to the fore.

3 Jedibeel ($10.00)

A genuine short course sprinter who thrives at 1000 to 1100. Maps ideally to stalk the speed from barrier 4 and has trialled in strong style. While not as classy as the top pair he is the right profile for this race distance and looks a sound each way play.

Race 9 – DRINKWISE TRAMWAY STAKES (1400 METRES)

5 Private Eye ($3.20)

Elite sprinter miler who excels fresh. His recent Lawrence Stakes win confirmed he is back near his peak. The wide barrier forces him back but a hot tempo suits his finishing burst. This is his trip and he sets the benchmark.

2 Linebacker ($6.00)

Promising four year old who claimed the Randwick Guineas last campaign. Versatile and handles Randwick well. The wide draw makes the map awkward but his class and progression through the grades suggest he is the key danger to the older horses.

4 Willydoit ($13.00)

Derby winner resuming over 1400. His best work is beyond a mile, but he has a strong turn of foot and a solid record fresh. He can settle midfield and run on into the placings if this turns into a genuine staying test.
